As a bike commuter, I carry my u-lock just about everywhere. I like being able to hold my lock on the outside of my pack for quick access, but the way I used to do it was becoming too cumbersome. This quick project solved two problems that I had previously:
1. To remove the lock, I'd have to unbuckle the pack and remove the lock from a carabiner.
2. Due to the aforementioned fussing about with the pack, I could not access the lock without taking the pack off my back.
With this little sheet metal holster, I'm able to access the contents of the pack without worrying about the lock, and I can access the lock without removing my backpack. Win!
